Notes:

1. In using nine different plates, this is one of Villon’s most complex and also most spectacular color aquatints.

2. This scene is quite near the home of Villon and his brother, Marcel Duchamp (at 71 rue Caulaincourt), and looking up toward the north side of the Butte Montmartre. This address is just down the street from the apartment of Toulouse-Lautrec (died in 1901).
