1907-1908
Goat Carts on the Champs-Elysées

Reference:
Auberty & Pérussaux no. 186
Ginestet & Pouillon E. 272-II/III
Notes:
1. An extremely rare (“quelques épreuves”, according to Ginestet &
Pouillon) impression of the 2nd State. In the 3rd State, the background was
extensively re-worked and also was printed in only “quelques épreuves”
(only a few proofs).
2. This work had to have been executed at the same time as Ginestet & Pouillon’s
E. 209 and
E. 210, both from 1907-1908 and both of which are virtually the same subject (Voitures
de Chèvres), style and treatment. Contrary to Auberty & Pérussaux, as well
as contrary to Ginestet & Pouillon (who sometimes simply lean on Auberty &
Pérussaux’s opinions), who all date this etching to 1912-1913, we date this work
to 1907-1908. Technically, stylistically and by choice of subject, this work
fits right in with this earlier period.
