Genoa 1629–1657

Bartolomeo Biscaino first trained as a painter with his father before becoming a pupil of Valerio Castello (1624–1659). It is likely that Biscaino was inspired to pick-up the etching needle becuase he admired work by his older Genoese contemporary, Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione (1609–1664), though the two likely had little personal interaction. In 1657, Biscaino's prolific career was cut short by an outbreak of the plague in Genoa. He died at 28.
