1. This is the 3rd and final State of this work.
1st State: about 445 x 625 mm. Only drypoint. Printed in light tan. Only shows the four women sitting.
2nd State: still about 445 x 625 mm. Additional work in background. Signature and date etched in plate. Just a few proofs in blue and black.
3rd State: plate now 418 x 575 mm. A rug has been added, as well as a dog in the lower-center of the composition, as well as a chest of drawers to upper right, as well as a coffee pot (which now hides the chair in the back). Colors now sanguine and predominately greenish. 50 impressions.
2. Yvonne Bon was the daughter of a Dr. Bon, Villon’s next-door neighbor on the rue Lemâitre in Puteaux. She eventually became the wife of Villon’s brother, the sculptor Raymond Duchamp-Villon. She posed for all four of the female figures depicted in this work.
