1. This painting is comparable in color and technique to a number of other Lhote works in the immediate post-war period of 1945-1950. As an example, there is Lhote’s Terrasse sur la vallée du Rhône (Terrace Looking Over theRhône Valley) from 1947 at the Museé des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux (no. 142 and reproduced in color in: André Lhote, Musée de Valence, 2003) as well as Lhote’s 1947 Travers les arbes (Looking over the Trees) (same ref. as above, no. 5).
